Esk Valley wine reviewed by wine journalist Jamie Goode
Esk Valley Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2008 has been given a great review by well-known wine journalist Jamie Goode on wineanorak.com. Jamie said:
"New Zealand reds are fast becoming their most exciting wines. Here’s a good one from a producer I visited a few years back, and it’s not overly expensive, at just over a tenner. And it’s lovely.
Esk Valley Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2008 Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
A majestic expression of the Bordeaux red varieties. Lovely smooth aromatic nose of violets, black cherry and blackcurrant with subtle spicy notes. The palate is supple and elegant with ripe dark fruits and some refined gravelly structure, as well as seamless oak integration. Almost perfectly balanced. 93/100."
