An Esk Valley Chardonnay has just been announced Champion Wine of the Show and received the Chardonnay Trophy at The Spiegelau International Wine Competition 2015.
The winning wine was the Esk Valley Winemakers Reserve Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2013, a wine which has also previously won gold at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
Esk Valley also picked up a gold medal for the Hawkes Bay Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2014 and is one of only two wines awarded gold in the Merlot predominant category.
Esk Valley Senior Winemaker Gordon Russell said it was pleasing to see Hawkes Bay at the top of its game, “This wine is made in small volumes to express the best of the harvest; it’s a rich and complex style highlighting that the quality from the 2013 harvest does not just pertain to red wine, but also the white varietals”.
